Roland works his magic...

Leon Betts

Roland cuts out the rusty and accident damaged metal that was beyond repair. You will see that he was able to panel beat some areas of the grill surround.

Roland treated the rusty areas with deoxidine (deoxidine not only removes rust, but destroys rusting agents and leaves the metal surface chemically clean and ready for painting). He then set about fabricating new repair patches by hand to replace the damaged metal that he had to cut out.

The rust patches were then welded in place. Note the copper-based primer that protects the inner surfaces from rust without interfering with the welding process.

After he is happy with the repairs, Roland trial fits the grill to ensure it fits correctly. This is an important step as you do not want to be making adjustments after the car is painted.

Roland has almost completed the accident and rust repairs on our '63 Jaguar Mk II project. He decided to leave the worst till last...the grill surround. Some time ago the car was involved in a nasty head-on shunt. The repairs left a lot to be desired and grill surround was still badly deformed and rust had taken hold in the years since the repairs. But as you will see in the photos below, Roland has again worked his magic and put everything right.

Cheers Leon
