55 Chev update...

Leon Betts

Although there is a lot of work still to do before the car goes to the paint shop, we are very pleased with progress to date.

The blown and stroked small block will provide this cruiser with some serious power.

Why do we spend time assembling a car given that we just have to take it apart to paint it? This is why. We found the engine and trans had to be raised a little to achieve the correct angle and clearances. A simple modification to the engine mounts and trans crossmember was all it took.

Roland and Andrew mount the bonnet. The old grill was used in the mock-up but it will be replaced with a shiny new one. As you can see, Andrew still has the radiator to install.

The '55 Chev Hardtop project is starting to look the goods! Our customer has given us a leisurely 12-month build window. Therefore, we tend to work on this project in fits and starts as people and parts become available. Craig built the blown small block some time ago and this week Andrew has some spare time to install it and the transmission to check clearances. He also installed the front-end as this will allow him to mount the new radiator and other bits and pieces in the engine bay. This mock-up process is an essential stage in the build process as the last thing you want to discover after the car is painted is that bits don't fit!
