Disassembly of our HJ project is complete and the restoration process is in full swing. Today Jackie sent out the block for machining and the diff and brakes to be re-built. He also ordered a heap of parts including a gearbox re-build kit, some rust repair panels and a heap of parts needed to re-build the motor. The panels are already with the sandblaster and the body will follow in the morning. Trent has removed all suspension and steering components from the subframe so it can be painted and the suspension re-built.
Why do all these things so early in the build? Experience tells us that assembly is the most complex part of any restoration. So by rebuilding and restoring as many individual components as we can early in the build, we can 'flush-out' issues before we start assembly. The last thing we want to be doing is making changes and modifications once the car is painted.
