These beautiful photos share a common characteristic...none of them were taken by me. To be brutally honest, if you are looking for tips on how to improve your car photography skills it's absolutely no use talking to me.
Why state the obvious? No real reason other than to take a gentle swipe at some of Ol' School Garage's higher profile competitors. It's not as if I spend all my time following what other classic car sellers and restorers do. But I see enough advertisements and newsletters to know that I win the prise for the crapiest photography.
I here you ask...'Leon, how have you manage to maintain such a low standard of photography for so long'? Well, I attribute my lack of photography skills to my impatience and my rudimentary equipment of choice...my trusty iPhone 4. Yes, I point and shoot and take enough photos that I may get a half decent shot worthy of my low standards every now and then for publication.
But most importantly, I don't edit my photos. No, what you see is what I took a photo of. No removing paint blemishes or dents from cars and certainly no enhancements to the colour and lighting to give a car that amazing 'to good to be true' shine.
Yesterday I had a bloke come into the Ol' School Garage showroom to,specifically look at our 1979 Challenger. He loved the car and took the time to say that cars generally don't look as good in the flesh...but in this case it looked better than the photos. And although his statement confirmed my lack of photography skills, that is just the way I like it.
Glad I got that off my chest!
