A couple of months ago our LA-based buyer managed to track down a couple of very nice 65 Mustang Fastback project cars. The first car is pretty much complete and now sits in our showroom waiting for a slot in our restoration schedule.
However the second car is a roller i.e. no drivetrain. So I asked Miki to see what he could find prior to the car being shipped to Brisbane. Miki's solution was to buy an unfinished 65 Mustang Coupe resto-mod project.
The owner of the coupe said he spent over $30,000 on the new engine and other parts before running out of money. This included a 450 hp blue-printed 351 Windsor engine, a Vintage Air A/C system, rack and pinion steering, new performance suspension, 9" diff and Wilwood disc brakes all round. No one except Miki could see past the butt ugly coupe with its hideous body kit.
So Miki pretty much stole the coupe and swapped the drivetrain, suspension, etc into the fastback (then sold the coupe as a roller). The fastback is now being packed into our next container and I am looking forward to restoring not one, but two 65 Fastback Mustangs.
