It was love at first sight when I saw this '61 Newport advertised in Phoenix. The outrageous styling looks like it was inspired by the 1960's cartoon 'The Jetsons'. Obviously Cadillac wasn't the only manufacturer that had a fondness for big fins in the early 60's.
Although the car is mechanically sound, it did have quite a bit of rust in the floor pans and some around the sills and lower quarters. Ably assisted by our new apprentice Trent, Roland made short work of the rust. The car is now in the Paint Shop where Jamie has finished the paint repairs and prep. He expects to have it painted this week. Then back to the Fab Shop for assembly and commissioning.
The cross-ram induction system on the 361 V8 is almost as outrageous as the external styling. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of this classic and see the look on people's faces as I cruise past!
I will share some more photos when the car is finished.
