Roland started the rust repairs on our 76 HJ 1-tonner build today. As you can see he has his work cut out for him. He thought he would tackle the lower left-hand rear corner of the cab first as it looks very much like a block of Swiss cheese. As no rust repair sections are available for this area he will have to reconstruct both the inner and outer sections and associated supports from scratch.
Roland is being assisted by Trent, our Fab Shop apprentice. Trent's job is to replace all four floor sections. The good news here is that rust repair panels are available for the floor. But this is still quite a task as the old floors still need cut out and the old spot welds unpicked. Then the new repair sections need to be cut to shape before being welded in place.
I will share more photos as they work their way through this very big job over the next couple of weeks.
