My wife and I are in NZ this week on a road trip around the South Island. The first item to make the itinerary was a trip to see Burt Munro's Indian motorcycle. Burt's record breaking feats (especially those on the Bonnerville Salt Flats) were made famous in the movie World's Fastest Indian.
Burt's bike is part of a marvellous eclectic automotive collection owned by an Invercargill business. The collection is displayed in a hardware store owned by the business. Yes, the cars and bikes are displayed in the store in amongst the wheel burrows, chainsaws, mowers, etc. Those visiting the collection rub shoulders with the shoppers and shop assistants making the experiences all the more memorable.
And the price to see this fantastic collection? Nothing...just make a donation to a local charity supported by the business should you wish! I reckon every motoring enthusiast should make a pilgrimage to Invercargill. But remember your jacket...it was 12 degrees when we visited.
